Tia is counselor and credentialed play therapist dedicated to helping children, teens and their families navigate difficult challenges. She values diversity & choice and deeply respects your courage to seek support. Her work builds on the importance of recognizing choices in life and developing acceptance for things that cannot be changed. Her passion for creating a safe space and trusting relationship provides freedom to explore, heal and grow.
Tia graduated from Georgia State University with a Masters in Professional Counseling and became credentialed as a Register Play Therapist and Supervisor. She has over 20 years’ experience working in residential, school and community settings with children and supporting their caregivers. Her areas of expertise are trauma, abuse/neglect, grief, adjustment to change (e.g. family separation, moving), self-acceptance, ADHD, anxiety, depression, anger, behavior problems, social anxiety and peer relationship difficulties.
Play therapy is fundamental for children because play is their language to understand the world and develop skills to regulate emotions, connect socially, learn to problem-solve and build creativity. Creative expression allows all ages to tap into the healing power within their body and brain. Tia’s person-centered approach draws from interventions including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness and Sand Tray Therapy.
